Three Tundra Bean Geese were in fields N of Big Waters + 2 Eurasian White-fronted Geese and 7 Pink-footed Geese.

Waxwing – Tynemouth – 22nd Dec 2016

A single Waxwing was in a tree on the roundabout at Beach Road Tynemouth, where the swimming pool is. It was great to see they were still around.

21st Dec 2016 – Geese sightings

There were 4ad Tundra Bean Geese and 6 Russian White fronted Geese (1juv) with 600 Pink footed Geese SE of Druridge cottages by coast road at 1550 NZ276957.

20th December 2016 – Seahouses – Amble

Single Grey Plover at Seahouses present.

At Amble Braid two male Red breasted Mergansers were on the River Coquet.  Also one of the Black tailed Godwits starting to show quite a bit red now.

9.30 am. Whittle Dene Reservoirs. Juv Bewicks Swan with Mute Swan family party, in 3rd field west of G.N. Reservoir (oil-seed rape or turnips), north of military road.

10.20 –10.30 am. Prestwick Carr. Great Grey Shrike. South of the rough east-west lane, viewed from the first viewing platform east of the red flag. Moved further east and lost sight.

Bean Goose – 17th December 2016

A  Tundra Bean Goose was at Cresswell Pond this afternoon… whilst a Long-Tailed Duck was still in the SW corner of Bothal Pond.

Velvet Scoter & Long-tailed Duck offshore at Alcan, North Blyth. Also 314 Redshank and 295 Dunlin on the staithes.

Alnmouth – 10th December 2016

There was a single Waxwing in our garden in Alnmouth on the 10th December. It was in a loose flock of Chaffinches and Tree Sparrows.

8th December 2016 – Bewick’s Swan

A Bewick’s Swan  was at Whittle Dene Reservoirs today.  A  juvenile was on the Great Northern Reservoir at dawn before flying to nearby fields to feed.

Around 25-30 Waxwings sighted in West Allotment/Northumberland Park this afternoon approx 1.30 pm and again at 2.45 pm feasting on yellow berries.

Single Black tailed Godwit with Redshanks and Curlews at Amble Braid. Also a Red throated Diver swam close in, full length of harbour.

Wansbeck estuary this am – 2 Crows tucking into Sea Buckthorn berries and a Grey Seal pup wondering how to scale the weir back out to sea!

There were 64 Black-tailed Godwit at Amble Braid, which is unusually high numbers for Northumberland in winter.

At East Chevington there 3 Scaup, 13 Snow Buntings over the dunes and a Chiffchaff; whilst on the beach just south of the burn mouth the seven Shore Larks were still present.

There were 8,600+ Common Gulls & 1,300+ Black-headed Gulls in the Derwent Reservoir roost.
