24th November 2013

Another all day session starting at Newbiggin with little sea passage apart from steady numbers of Gannets.  A Long-tailed Duck in amonst the Eider near the ‘statues’ was a surprise for here. Otherwise the regular Mediterranean Gulls on the beach with six adults & a first-winter plus a Purple Sandpiper. On to Snab Pt with little also moving. Cresswell Pond saw the juvenile Black-necked Grebe still present plus a juvenile Scaup. Also little off Druridge and absolutely zero on the pools. Lunch beckoned again and a Sunday roast for £5.50 at Widdrington seemed a definite bargain.  Fortified, I covered East Chevington in the afternoon with the highlight of the day being a  Pomarine Skua steadily moving North though some way out offshore from the N end of East Chevington. Also here an immature male Velvet Scoter which was flying N then decided to pitch down amongst a group of 30 Common Scoter. On to Druridge Bay CP and three Long-tailed Ducks on Ladyburn lake. TRD
